pulling more timing than total advance

ok mods are in my sig
i did a search but couldn't find where someone posted this before (it might have been on a different board)
but ok the average is Total Timing: 36 Total Knock Retard 46
the worst Total Timing: 40 Total Knock Retard 107
i would just like to know what to check. this was with 87 octane and i am going to put 92 in and run it and see what i get.
could it be from the car running lean because it has the stock fpr in it and is running lean at WOT 10.x a/f ratio
thanks for the help and just post if you need more info
this is using Craig Moates software
thanks
Andrew

Maybe i'm wrong, but i don't see any way your ECM is trying to pull 107' of timing out. I think moates software is displying something else, like knock counts or some other factor. I could be wrong, i've never seen his stuff, but i'm pretty sure the ECM would not have any code designed to fire cylinders at BDC

thats what i'm wondering. i just don't know i just started using his stuff today but my knock count go up really bad when i accelerate like i get 150+ knock counts when i run about 1/4 mile, i get about 30 when i just rev it to 4k.
thanks
Andrew

Sounds like your knock retard numbers are high by a factor of 10. You probably need to run 91/92 octane due to the age of your engine, and definitely if you have an aftermarket chip. I couldn't run anything less than high-octane with my 305 engine when I had a Hypercrap chip, or even when I was burning my own chips. You want your base timing to be set at 6 degrees with any aftermarket chip, 8 degrees maximum with a stock chip.
