I want to keep my car original. However, I want to maximize my CID. I want to put .060 flat top pistons. I want to know if I can put a 3.75 stroke crankshaft in my cute 305? Basically I am doing the same thing that would create a 383 with a 350. Am I going to have any clearance problems? This should bring my CID up to 338. Can I have some input. Please do not tell me just to put a 350 in my car. I want to keep my 305 numbers matching z28. Thanks for the help.
boring and strokeing the 305 like that will not make a 383 it will make a 339.5185782498745 cubic inch motor....i know its not what you want to hear but it would be cheaper and easier just to jump to a 350...more displacement. plus if u put in a 350 it still apears stock there are so many people in this world that claim they have a 350 when they only have a 305 u could be the oposite lol if you want to keep in numbers matching thats cool i guess but thats the info...i couldnt see spending all that money to still be smaller then a stock 350 but we will help ya when u need it....good luck and welcome to TGO...

Kind of a waste, but... do yourself a favor. If you plan on doing this to keep your 'numbers matching' block, dont bore it .060. Bore it as little as possible to get the cylinders round. Anything more is a waste and if you ever have to rebuild it again there's material there to bore again.
dang, i havn't heard of too many people boring and stroking a 305, and i know that its definatly not what you want to hear, but the guys above do make sense. you would still have a engine with a smaller ci than a stock 350. not to mention gets parts for a 336-339ci engine about be a pain n the ***. a 350 drop would be the best but if you don't want to do that, i would recommend just getting a bigger intake manifold and doing some extensive head work. thats just my
umm no small block parts are pretty muchs small block parts no harder finding parts for a stroked out 305 then it is to find parts for a 350.....
we had a harder time trying to find parts for my friends 327ci then we did for a 383 stroker, just saying from personal experience, we might have been looking in the wrong places but idk

care to elaborate because aside from the rotating assembly anything else on a 383 should bolt right up to a 327....

my bad to the main poster looking back i see you wrot 338 on what your cid will be i swear i saw 383 lol well after all u just swap the places of the last two numbers to get it. but aside from that the rest of my statement holds true sorry...

The rotating assembly parts for a 335 are much less common than for other combinations, which means there's much less selection, and higher prices to be paid.
Pistons for a 335 aren't much lighter than pistons for a 305, which aren't that much lighter than pistons for a larger bore SBC. There's no difference or additional difficulty in the balancing process.
Thanks for all the input. I have a high output 305 so by changing the crank and keeping the flat top pistons with keeping the stock head, am I going to run into valve clearance issues and how much is my compression going to increase? Keep in mind that I am going to be doing minor head work that will include a parrallel decking.
You cant use your current pistons. If you use the correct ones, compression is determined by what you pick, and valve clearance is determined by the camshaft.
hmm so why do u want to keep the camaro numbers matching? if its for a value later on wouldnt it be better to have the motor as close to stock as possible? if this is your reason have u ever thouhgt about just pulling the motor and storing it and replacing it with a better larger cid sbc? just keep all your stock stuff so u could change back later. if this isnt the reason for keeping it numbers matching i just cant forsee any other reason actually. because unless some one is going to crawl up in your engnie bay with a flashlight and try to read the block numbers wich ive never been able to read with a motor installed...there is no way they can tell your lets just say 383, is not a 305...

That is probably the best idea, pull and store the motor. Then put a 350 in.

I dont want to do a 350. I want to rebuild the 305. I want to stay off the beating path and at the same time keep the car original.

Thanks for the book tip. LOL

Okay turns out my friend is just plain stupid and doesn't know much about small block, sorry for confusing you man
