Stock "350" L98 with HSR and Cam...who's got numbers? HP TQ

Hey Guys,
Just wanna know what numbers people are pulling with a stock 350TPI engine with the Holley Stealth Ram (either complete kit or just intake&throttle body) and a cam.

I'm ordering the HSR kit in June regardless but I just want to see if I'm gonna make some good HP with just the stock motor, the HSR kit with 30 or 36lbs injectors and a mild cam.

And I'm hoping to get some decent numbers without needing to port or replace the heads with aftermarket ones, then it'll get expensive...well more expensive than i can afford.

I made 254whp with HSR on a bone stock L98. STock cam with 1.6 rockers. That motor had 260's in it with better tune, i was really lean.

Most mild cams on stock heads with HSR should make 270-300whp on the best day. you really need heads to get much over 300whp

Thanks mate.
That's the info I was after.
If I was to get a set of heads, still not sure which ones to go with but wanted to keep compression so i can run regular gas, and keep the idle semi-respectable, what heads/cam would you recommend and what hp could i expect with heads?

Re: Stock "350" L98 with HSR and Cam...who's got numbers? HP TQ

30-36lb injectors are too big for a mild cam stock head HSR 350. look into some 24lb-26lb injectors. theres a calculator for matching fuel injectors on expect HP output. my 30lb SVO injectors are good for 500-550hp. same as the 36lb accels etc.

heads depending on ur cam could be in the 180-195cc heads. larger the heads the more RPMS the engines gona have to run. unless u punch the cubes out to a 383 or larger the HSR with 195cc 350 will rev to 6500-7000 im guessing. on a 383 the same 195cc heads will peak in the 5500-6000range. u have to match the cam to the heads/intake. too many heads to list but a 180cc head will not rev to 6500 on a 350.

my setup is ported HSR, 30lb SVo injectors, 58mm tb, comp cams XFI cam 230/236 .571/.567 lift 113 lobe. patriot performance 195cc heads. and a 383 with prob 9.3-9.8 comp so i can run pump gas. i should be peaking at 5500rpms, with 480-490hp at the crank and running a 2500 stall converter matched for the cam.

EDIT: agree with above, i restated the same thing, he beat me to it.

well with aluminum you can run up to about 11 to 1 and still be ok on pump gas with a normal cam.

For most stock bottom end L98's with non-TPI i'd recommend any set of decent flowing aluminum heads in the 180-195 range and comps XFI 218/224 or CC503/XE276 for a fairly mild mannered car with good hp potential

Capable of 350-380 whp or even more depending how wild you go. XFI 218/224 will do close to 350whp. Bigger cams for more revs will push 375+ but you will have to rev it up abit

Re: Stock "350" L98 with HSR and Cam...who's got numbers? HP TQ

Thankjs again for that.
Would these heads work well with the HSR and xfi 218/224?
and more importantly will they fit on my l98?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Chev-V8-350-3...1%7C240%3A1318
And would i need to get anything else for the motor or hsr kit that cam and those heads and pistons and done?

Those heads are monsters. WAY to big for that motor. look for a 180- 195 cc runner.

What would you suggest?
I'm also being told to forget about 400hp+ with bolt-ons
I'd have to go porting this and that and replacing parts with lightweight etc

Re: Stock "350" L98 with HSR and Cam...who's got numbers? HP TQ

I love cars.. hate working on them, especially when its thing i don't understand.
Electronics I can work out easy enough, computers, piece of piss. problem solving fine, but trying to match a cam to heads to intake....
Nope.
My biggest problem is because i dont understand the lift/ numbers associated with it.
But i just want some power because at the moment it sounds like a v8 and goes like v6.
If i can at least get CLOSE to 400hp i'll be happy enough.

Re: Stock "350" L98 with HSR and Cam...who's got numbers? HP TQ

Like i said, full bolt ons I made near 260whp. Thats 315ish crank hp. Cam and heads are needed for 400+hp on crank. Roughly 340whp or so...

You'll want any aftermarket head that will flow over 240cfm or close to it. Most all do.
Cheapest head would probly be a set of vortec heads off a vortec truck 350. you can buy new ones for decent price as well. SDPC has them, i think they are 400 each but i dont remember. Setup with good springs for up to .600 lift but you'll only want to run .500-.525 since those heads are dead after that. Then get the vortec stealth ram.

LT4 hotcam will get you close to 340whp or so with that setup. Thats a nice budget setup. You can run the CC503 which you can find used from camaroz28.com or ls1tech sometimes.

Anything like that will work. duration in the 220 range but not much more.

hell for 950 (which is very high it seems) you might as well fork out another 150 for brodix IK180's or 200's but 200's are a touch big and i think they use a 1206 port which the HSR does not.

So I think i'll get that set of heads, hsr, cam, stall and call it a day.
I'll move onto learning the tuning side with the holley 950 commander and enjoying the car
I havent even started to think about the body work yet.
