305 rpm range stock?

ok..heres the thing...bought my 305 TPI with the impression its stock. well with all appearances it seems to be. it has a remanufactured computer and is maybe chipped. i say maybe, cause it seems to rev quite higher then i would imagine. its not lumpy so it dont' have a cam in it. what is the stock rpm limiter? is it different gear to gear. WOT shifts are 5500-6000. over drive kicks in 80-85 mph. i'm just a bit nervous that someone set the detent cable on the trans and i don't want to over run the components in the motor. it does feel as if there is a light shift kit in the trans. feedback would be great....

Stock RPM Limiter is generally set around 10,000 rpm on TPI cars, meaning a governor is programmed into the ECM functions, but not used because the calibration value is so high. I set the fuel shut-off on my stock bottem end, small cam, vortec head TPI engine for 6,250 rpm and due to a failing 700r4 touched it too many times to count.

Re: 305 rpm range stock?

6000 RPM is THE limit. Otherwise, your stock cast iron bottom end starts to break, your valvetrain will get coil bind and heads probably don't have enough air to breath. It sucks to spin a rod and then hear that permanent knock and miss until you rebuild. Generally, 5500RPM is the redline.
