EGR valve Temperature sensor - Do I need it?

Ok hope somebody can help me out here. I started out trying to change my intake gasket cause it was leaking and in doing so found my egr valve temp sensor wire was broken. So no biggy I'll just pick up a new one right! I cant find any(havent gone to a dealership yet) but still you think any parts store would be able to at least order it.

I guse all I want to know is do I need it? Tired of trying to find info about it or just the dang part.

Not that it really matters, but someone might find it intersting. Bought the car a 85 TA for $800 body ok rebuilt motor has tpi on it, seemed to run ok. I am norm a carb guy but figured why not this might be kinda fun to play with FI. First off guy had couple uneven junk pices of pipe for exhaust. Np new exhaust, 3.5" single cause I read it works better with the shorty headers. Had to drop a new radiator and rig up an electro fan, no probs with heat. Guy who put it together also forgot a few bolts here and there trans, tran mount, misc. Also no 02 sensor, knock sensor EMC had a lose wire. Few vaccum lines off. Fixed valve cover leak, then distrib leak, and then the rear of intake started leaking(fixing atm). Sucker is building to much pressure so then changed valve seals cause they leaked because he put intakes on the exhaust and exhaust on the intakes, while i was at it had some comp springs and retainers.

Now I'm just trying to see if the dang thing will stop leaking oil and run ok long enough to drive a bit n sell or push it of a cliff. After all my reading (here and there) I figure stock tpi intake sucks, I got the worste year for EMC, and I hate working on FI cars FYI I'm a drag racer and have other projects so not a complete moron just partialy.

Rant off!

Thanks BOOT

Try looking at Auto Zone or something like that. They might have to order one...but I know they have them listed...so does Napa.

Auto Zone part number is 14087416
Napa part number is CRB229130

Re: EGR valve Temperature sensor - Do I need it?

Thanks but I tried Autozone 1st and had em check all other local stores too(like 5 of em around here). Even tried to order it online at autozone, you can add it to cart cause it says special orders only just when you go to check out it stops and says something like no longer available. Tried carquest, napa, advancedauto, GM dealership, and some local auto parts store. Everyone says same thing cant get it.

I just put everythign back together the other day w/o it, seems to run fine, best I've had it so far. Also installed an adj fuel reg and ported the plenum while I had it apart. Engine light hasn't come on yet.

Still thx anyway

Re: EGR valve Temperature sensor - Do I need it?

I bought one from Rock Auto a few months ago. The CEL should come on without it. It's how the ECM verifies that the EGR did open when commanded.

Re: EGR valve Temperature sensor - Do I need it?

Looked at rockauto online cant find it tried a few diff years for pon or chev, also tried part numbers. Maybe I'm just not seeing it, if you could post a part num or link thx.

Also thing was never hooked up wire was broke right off, before I put it all back together I tried to find the wire incase I later found a sensor, no luck.

As for the CEL it would come on sometimes when I 1st got the car but not always and the car didn't have an O2 sen, knock sen, EGR solinoid wasn't hooked up. Dang thing didnt even have an air filter(put a custom cold on it). And yah I do have MAF with the lame 85 emc cause I know spd den doesnt use the egr valve temp sensor. But I haven't drove it a lot So i am hopeing the CEL stays off.

Also don't know if it was make a diff, but it has 305 heads and pretty sure dome pistons with a mild cam(no clue what I didn't build it). So I gotta check the compression ratio one of these days cause I know it runs like crap w/o premium not sure if any of that stuff would effect the egr.
