I'm also port and polishing the intake manifold, runners and plenium. So your suggesting to also do the heads?

oh yeah...just be very carefull around the valve seats, use you gasket to port match you intake with your heads...anything you can do to "clean up" a factory head will be an improvement

Ok thanks. Appreciate the info, how much extra horsepower do you think that will boost me from the tbi swap to with what I'm doing?

Re: Need info on heads

Check to make sure that your stock heads will handle the .488" lift with 1.5 Rockers... (.520" lift with 1.6 rockers) before the valve seals get crushed.

scamaro355 is right.... you'll need to do some tuning to your prom for the car to run right.
I'm not sure what those 187's flow but if your porting everything before them you might as well do your heads as well... Find some 305 World SR heads they have 58 cc chambers and 170 cc intake ports...
my 2 cents

Re: Need info on heads

Cool cool thanks for all that info guys, needed it before I put everything together, just wanted to do everything all at once so I won't have to do any more work to it for a while then I'll just go with a 350 later. By the way you think I should just go with the 1.6 ratio rockers?

Re: Need info on heads

i guess i missed the part about the 1.6 rockers with that cam, most of the time your lucky if you can get away with .480 lift with stock springs and no machine work. Just to be safe if you gonna use that cam with those heads id go with the 1.5 because unless you do some serious work to those heads anything past that most likely isnt gonna make much of a difference

Re: Need info on heads

I have an original 1987 Camaro IROC Z-28 with a 305 TPI automatic transmission. My plan is to replace it with a four bolt main 350 with 2.02, 1.60 valves, 64 cc chambers. I would like to keep the stock set-up for the TPI. Here’s my concerns: Will the intake bolt up to 2.02 heads and give enough swirl for the injection system to work adequately or should I look for 1.94" intake valves (1.60" exhaust optional), heads providing I include the rest of the package with adequate (cam, exhaust, etc.) will this work? I would like to stay with flat top pistons and adjust to around 10:1 ratio if possible.
Can anyone tell me what issues I will run into and recommendations in making the swap?

Re: Need info on heads

i can only think of 2 problems off the top of my head...the first being with heads...as far as the old school 2.02 heads the heads off of a L98 with the 1.94 valves will outflow them...and watch the amount of lift you go with on the cam...you could run into bind issues with the valvesprings...Hope you have someone that can do a tune on this for you because you WILL NEED IT!... good luck with the swap

Re: Need info on heads

Thanks for the feedback, I'm finding out the orginal intake for the 305 has a vortec style mounting for the two center bolts around the water jacket and the heads I use must have the same style. This is a problem unless I can replace the intake to something that will work for common 2.02 heads. Is the 350 TPI the same style manifold to head bolt up as the 305?

Re: Need info on heads

i was just reading my last thread....the 2.02 heads will not clear the 305's small bore so be carefull with cam choices...and the 350 intake is the same..the injectors are the only difference
