the way i learned was to snug then start the engine and tighten till they stop ticking and go another 1/4 turn. i dont feel this is right how do all of you adjust yours also if i over tightened would it create a terrible idle miss
when i first learned we were still using feeler gages. i have no idea how to do it with a roller cam, and roller lifters and roller pushrods into full roller rockers. but i heard the same thing. youtube is a great teacher - but the problem is you never know if the guy is right. never done it with this car so im still out in the cold.
Adjust the intake valve when the exhaust rocker on the same cylinder just starts to move, adjust the exhaust valve when the intake goes down and start back up. This method works on any cam/lifter combo reguardless of duration
when i do this how should i tighten them. i mean i understand what you said on when too tighten them, but how will i know when there tight enough or would it be best and most acurate to use a feeler guage
When that pushrod develops resistance as you turn it with your finger, stop.
Then you should turn the cap another 1/2-3/4 turn. Then lock 'em up if you
have roller rockers/locking caps. It is ok for some arms to have some wiggle
depending on where the engine is resting.
The object here is to get the lifter plunger to operate roughly center of
its travel during all engine speeds, too tight and the plunger bottoms out,
too loose and stuff starts jumping around. Remember to follow the #1 & 6
TDC intake/exhaust valve procedures so you are on the base circle of the
cam mentioned in the article, I never really do it with the engine running,
this works like a charm!
Its a finesse/touch kinda thing, sometimes it takes once or twice.
