just curious what the fastest bolt on 305 cars out there happen to be, lets keep it down to anything thats a free mod, along with any bolt on not requiring pulling more than a valve cover.
i know my 305 car before 1.6 ratio roller rockers, new tuneup and underdrive pulleys would have ran a respectable time if i didnt have massive wheel hop i ran a 2.4 second 60 footer and trapped 92 mph pulled a 15.1 i feel, in its current form i could nai mid 14s should have pulled a high 14 the way it was that day if i could have launched it without hopping.
hopefully i get a chance to try and run mine again before i install, my ported heads, siamesed intake and cam in.
A decently driven LB9-T5-G92 car should easily run high 14s, STOCK. About 1-2 tenths behind a L98-A4. The 305 car in most cases will trap at roughly the same MPH. It should run about 94-95 MPH, STOCK. With traction that is a low 14 second pass. Work on putting the power to the ground and even a stock LB9 will run low 14s. With bolt-ons, I could see reaching mid-low 13s a real possibility.

my thoughts exactly.
last time i took mine to the track i couldnt pull anything better than a 2.43 60 footer, the rear end was hopping up and down like an s-10 lol......... it was also running very rough (fuel pressure was set to high and timing wasn't set perfect when i got her). i'm now running 6* btdc timing with a new billet distributor, new aluminum water pump, march underdrive pulleys, 40 lbs fuel pressure with my line unhooked from what used to be 46 lbs line unhooked (this is all with 22lb hour injectors, can you say pig rich!) Anyways hopefully i can borrow my neighbors drag radials and take her to the track in the near future as soon as i can afford some rear lca relocation brackets to fix my hopping.
My 91 s-10 with a stock 305 TPI 700r4 ran 14.25 at 98mph with zero wheel hop on street tires and leaf springs. It has 3.73s. Shifted at 5000rpm I had low 2.0 60 foot
My buddy has an ext cab s-10 with a stock 350 TPI built 700r4 3.42 little looser converter and slicks ran low a tenth better than me at the same speed. also no wheel hop. He pulled a 1.9xx 60 foot
With only bolt on's my 1988 305 5sp ran 13.81 at 99 MPH.

anymore i'd like to get a running tally i mean i cant imagine more don't take their 305s to the track their are afterall a ton more 305 cars than 350s........
i just had a set back on mine, so i'm pretty much just waiting to get back in the camaro mood again. im now the proud owner of a new 08 model year fz1 yamaha bike . my car is having some maf issues currently i do beleive. Also im just sick of its general state of tune i'm going to be giving pcm 4 less a call soon to do up a prom 4 me.
I have no track times because over here we have hardly the possibillity to race. I dynoed my car a few years before. Mods were the usual free mods and a catback. the numbers were 204 rwhp and 310 lbft.
Now I have headers and want to go to the dyno again!
I brought my 305 tpi in 2003 to english town,, with just a bunch of free mods and an exhaust and ran a 2.3 60ft with a 15.6
a year later i added an intake,, power pullys and 3.73 gears with subframe connector and ran a 1.9 60ft at 14.9
ive since added a lot more(350) but restored her to prestine condition so i dont run her anymore..
lordmetalz28, thanks for a good honest reply.
I've had and raced 3 different 305 powered cars, and my friend has had 2 305 powered Firebirds. All the times are from Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wi (around 800 ft. above sea level).
My current car = 1991 Z28/LB9/G92/5-Speed with tb coolant by pass, gutted air box, k&n filters, tpis airfoil, catback exhaust, and 140,000 miles ran a best of 15.109 @ 92.4 mph with a 2.09 60ft. time on 5/6/09.
Also, for comparision (and perspective), I had a 1981 Z28 305/4-Speed/3.42 posi with almost every bolt on possible without touching the long block that ran a best of 15.6 @ 88 mph. My buddy had a 305 H.O. carbed/auto '84 T/A that ran 15.7's completely stock. He also had a '85 non H.O. T/A that ran 16.1. Hands down the fastest 305 car (naturally asperated) I've ever seen was my 1977 Olds Starfire(Monza/Vega) with a weiand aluminium intake/holley 600/stock exhaust manifolds/y pipe/factory 4 speed/3.73 posi, and weighing in at 2200 lbs. ran 13.7's @ 99-103 mph.
I've done alot of work and messing around with 305's, and if you really have one that's naturally asperated with only bolt ons and running legit 13's, you have one hell of a nice running 305 and my hat's off to ya!
i dont have TPI,i have a L03 it ran high 15s pretty much stock with crappy 215/60 tires.Since then ive done everything in my sig...and i believe with some meaty tires it could run mid-high 14s....which is deff not bad for a L03 to me.
With all the normal mods--headers, 1.6 rockers, pullies, CAI, bigger throttle body, bump timing a few degrees, or, better still, a custom tune, runners, decent converter, 3.73's, theres no reason why a 305 couldnt run a 13.50 or better in good air. Good tires are a must. theres no point in even going to the track if you have crap tires and arent going to hook.
I know this is sort of an old thread, but I figured that I would put some input in.
A few years ago I did a 14.678 @ 95.31 w/ a 2.230 60', this was on a 90 degree day after a doing a bunch or runs trying to get a good launch.
My mods at the time were a T5 swap, headman shorties to a cutout, free mods, 1.6 rockers (roller tips) Center force DF clutch, hurst short throw, 4th gen take out posi w/ 3.42 gears, ported TPI w/ SLP runners. I had done zero tuning at that point, and I was on 235 firestones.
I am hoping for 13s with some tuning, and some better traction.

The fastest my car went was a 14.2 at 95mph and a 1.99 60'.
It is a 305 with a mild crane cam .423/.456 204/210 @.50, egr bumps removed from plenum, otherwise stock intake, long tube headers into a 3" flowmaster exhaust, MAC frame connectors, auto and a 3.27 BW rear, street tire and urathane bushings. Did that on a 90* day with no wind. I figured the car was making about 220-230 to the tires

Basically when I launch the car, I put it in neutral, pump the bakes twice, pull the ebrake up, push and hold the brakes, let the ebrake out and bring the motor up onto the stall(which is about 1800) when the last yellow lights, its pedal to the metal. I do all that brake junk to get the brakes to really hold at the light. pulling the ebrake brings extra fluid to the rear brakes and then pushing the pedal holds it there. it is pretty consistant too, I think before I put the frame connectors in it was doing a 2.0-2.1 60' at 14.6. Could not believe that the connectors dropped the ET that much, i knew it would help the 60' though. later this year I am hoping to get to the track again, I just dropped in a vortec 350. will update what that runs
The best ways that I have found to launch a stick car are, to launch it hard let it spin (at the light have the car at 3k and dump the clutch), and play with the throttle until it hooks, once it does bring the rpm up and shift. the other way is to bring the car up to 3k dump the clutch and play with the clutch until it hooks, I personally like the first one because your not slipping the clutch at all and you are heating the tires up which will stick better. also when you are at the light, come to the stage and set the ebrake, that way you will not roll and red light(if there is an incline). also i think everyone will agree, put a tire on the car, but then if you are making power and it hooks up, you can break parts.
i put an 90 lb9 305 auto in my rs
installed 1.6 roller rockers, crank underdrive pulley ,air foil
gutted air box with tpis foam filters tb coolent bypass ported plenum
posi 3.23 gears edelbrock tes tbi headers 2 1/4 ypipe into the stock 2 1/4 i cat and i pipe
14.3 @ 96 2.31 60 ft
im betting if i upgrade to a larger exhaust and better tires ill be in the 13s no problem
im just glad my camaro is finally faster then my roadmaster station-wagon it runs 14.6 @ 93

With them modds I have semi gutted air box 3.27 9bolt shot headers flows out back cam bumped timing 93 gas and when my tires wasn't so bald 245 50 16 I ran neck up with a stock ls1 t56 ss camaro but he out ran me in the long I had a 200lb person in the car 2 and some subs 8th mile would have KILLed him I also beat 2 at the same time 2011 charger rt by a car and a mini coupe lol I ran a new zr1got my *** kicked hard I don't kno what I lost buy
Holy 3yrs ago!!!
I have a 89 formula 350 and once while a 350 was out I put in a 30,000mile 305.
I put a old ZZ2cam in the otherwise stock longblock out of a 92Forumula.
I had SLP cold air kit, gutted maf, mono blade tbody, (ported plenum-SLP-runners-stock base), AFPR@ 52lbs,Timming bump 12-14?, knocksensor unplugged, good fuel, SLP headers, ypipe, catback S10 converter and 3.27gear with polly controlarms and no front swaybar.
On stock tires (245GSCs) with a maf and trans that was failing it ran 13.70s at 102ish.
I know with a tire, a good maf and some tweaking it would have been atleast a 13.40 car..
