305 TPI to Vortec 350 TPI

I want to swap my 250,000 mile 305 tpi with a low mileage l31 vortec I just picked up and I have a few questions. I have a ported edlebrock base for the vortecs, so thats not a problem. Can I use the 153 tooth flex plate from the 305 on the vortec? If I install the two dowl pins in the front of the motor can I use the old steel timing cover from my 305? And since I wont be using the reluctor wheel on the crank, can I use a timing set for a pre-vortec roller motor?

With that said, how much power do you think the motor will put out. I'll be using an lt1 cam, 24lb injectors, stock TB with air foil, ported plenum, large tube runners, shorty headers, 2 1/4" duel exhaust with x pipe and fowmaster 50 series mufflers.

Re: 305 TPI to Vortec 350 TPI

you need to use your flywheel and starter ,leave the the front of the motor alone ..... plastic timing cover ,chain ,cam, balancer etc.all your acc.will fit just leave the crank sensor in the cover and unplugged ,dont bother with the lt1 cam,the l31 cam is almost identical.i dont know about power,i definitly have more and i have the same thing in my car.i have the edelbrock intake, edelbrock 3 piece header setup(f body specific).you better order a rear end and slicks because your gonna have trouble hooking!!!!!!!!!

That Vortec cam is no where close to that LT1 cam.

Go ahead and do what you were thinking it all will work.

Don't use 1.6 rockers with that cam tho, the heads won't take that much lift.

of course it will work.............. but for the time and cost to hp gain and the lift limitation why bother ??
also gonna add some serious cost or serious time to get a prom burned right to take advantage of it........................
