help 355 surging

swapped 89 305to 355 tpi. surging horribly with "performance" chip, would stall sometimes, put old chip back in hypertech 305,runs ok. still surges a lil' bit or hunts for idle when cold. Question is..will a custom chip cure this/ or issomething else wrong. Checked for intake leak about a thousand times, put timingback at 6 degrees, put in 350 knock sensor, esc module, feul psi at 50lbs. inj. 24 ilbs. no emissions, headers. seems to run ok hot, but initial startup( cold or hot) she's all over the place.

Re: help 355 surging

Whenever you do any major changes such as an engine swap, heads, or a cam you have to get a custom chip burned for third gen camaros. If you don't they will surge, run like crap, not pass smog or just not start at all.

Re: help 355 surging

oh really? when it has one of the pre programmed bins that came with the ebl flash ecm, it won't do it, only when i change the airflow, and injector pulse width to what it should be for 24lb injectors does it have this problem. was looking for someone who possibly could help, not state the obvious.

Re: help 355 surging

Well you asked if a custom chip would cure this issue and I'm basically telling you that yes it most likely will. Performance chips that you can buy pre-programmed without anyone really knowing your combo is just retarded. Even if you tell them the combo it doesn't make any sense because they can't monitor what the car is actually doing unless they are right there with you at the dyno with the programmer plugged in. Now that is pretty damn obvious. I would take the car to an experienced tuner because it could be something weird like the spark map being off.

Re: help 355 surging

And drop that fuel pressure.
If the IAC isn't causing your surge then the 2 most likely culprits are:
Too much fuel
Incorrect spark timing

Re: help 355 surging

ok since I started this post I wired in a programmable ecm, that's why I couldn't understand why Chriznoznae1 was tellingme a the chip wouldn't work, my bad I apologize. Honestly I totally forgot I posted this at all. I posted one since in another forum, diy prom, I think. for the surging with the ebl. What are most guys running the timing and pressure at? I'm at 43-45 psi and 6 degrees. I'm prob gonna end up havin' it tuned at a shop but peice of mind is priceless. again sorry bout that Chriznoznae1

Re: help 355 surging

so if anyone is interested or has this problem, it was actually the knock sensor retarding the timing.
