ok ive had this car for roughly about 2 years now and i finally got my truck were i want it, so im going to start doing my car up im looking for around 450hp or at least 400hp. i have a 1989 iroc z with the 350tpi motor and was wondering what i would have to do to reach this goal and can the tpi fuel injecttion support that much with out running into fueling issues???

Bolt on an intake setup, throttle body, headers, full exhaust, heads, and a nitrous system. That's what I did on my 82 Trans Am, but she's carbed so I put a carb in not a throttle body. Swapped in a 1974 LT-1 350, Bolted up an edelbrock Performer intake, lightweight fan, Headers, exhaust, no cat, Holley 650 double pumper with mechanical secondaries, Accel distributor, and a NOS Powershot system. I make about 430 HP out of that thing, Thats about the max before I need to rebuild with forged internals.
I think you're safe threshold will be around 400 HP, maybe 450 depending on how well you do your homework. Goodluck with it!

Okay that one I honestly do not know. I wasn't the one who put the cam in. I know it has a "mild" cam but that's all the info I have on it. And, for that reason, I am actually planning on replacing that camshaft with a hydraulic roller of my choice, so I know all of that vital information
ls1 with a cam. 400+ to the tires and 27 mpg on the highway. Just messing with ya. Go with a nice head and cam package and probably some sort of power adder, nitrous, supercharger, etc. The intake is definetely gonna have to go. Depending on your budget, you could make 400+ n/a but it'll cost ya. Or just settle for less power and spend some money on gears, transmission, weight reduction, suspension and go just as fast...
you can get 450 hp easy if you stroke out that 350 to 383, new cam, heads, intake, carb. itll easily put you into the 450 hp, if not get you very close.
if you wanna keep the tpi, i say cam, heads, intake, exhaust, headers, nitrous
Forget carb, you could easily pull great numbers with fuel injection and without nitrous. Let me look up exactly how my buddy built his daily driver. It was around 450 I know and it had the torque to break driveshafts at will.
if you wanna stay FI, go with a 350 block stroked out to 383, switch over to a different intake, stealth ram, or LT1 intake, with bigger injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, headers, 3 inch exhaust. thatll put you up there easily as well.
the car has 160000 miles on the stock motors so boaring out to a 383 would be the best idea with all kinds of goodys. but i really dont have the money for it so ill wait till i get a good stack but for now i want to change the look of it. witch brings me to another question whats the biggest tire you can fit under it without tubbing it? i want to put some et streets under it.

If you want get your car into the 11's get a 250 shot of NX. otherwise save for a build up. Keep in mind there is a lot of supporting mods to help you get down the track. Also don't worry about wide tires if your at stock or close to power levels. Your just wasting your money or posing.

LS series SWAP FTW!
im doing this but using the truck LQ4 and a t56...the lq4's are dirty cheap and ewasy to build to make over 400hp
6.0L and LS3 heads = stupid amounts of power and sips on gas

trust me i would love to do that but between all my stuff and my dads cars we dont have the room to rip another car into peices and i dont have the money for the conversion.if i had it my way i would have a ls2 and a t56 ready to put in my car.but man your gona have one hell of a set up when your done good luck with it.

yah it should be fun....ive tried and tried again to make this tpi stuff work and lack of a power adder its not fast enough. i mean im on my 3rd 700r4 now and im losing faith in these cars
i wish i could turbo this setup and make it work but i know id blow it up to pieces

Gen3 and 4 motors are great for making power but the swap can be expensive. But.... building a 450 hp tpi motor probably isn't going to be that much cheaper. Having had an LS1 I would definately like to have another one but figure about $5k for the swap.
Now let me ask you another question. What are your goals for the car? do you plan on keeping it for a long time? are you looking to run 12's, 11's etc?

my plans on the car are to drive it on the street mabe the track once or twice and to eat ls1s alive really i want a fun street car.
Why not do an LT1 swap? Its substantially cheaper than doing an LS swap, and they make excellent power and torque. Doesn't take much to get an LT1 over 400hp... usually just a cam and headers/exhaust will get you there. Put a decent set of heads on it too, like AFRs or something, and 500+ is pretty easy to do.
Its a micu cheaper and more straightforward swap than an LSx, just because the LT1 is Gen 1 based, so alot of the stuff you have now will transfer over to it - transmission, exhaust, air intake, throttle body, etc etc..
