Trying to pull the dizzy off of my 87 IROC and it does not want to come out. is there something else holding it in that I'm not seeing? and if so how in the heck do I get to it? I'm thinking I may need to pull the intake off to get a good look but i'd hate to do that if I don't have to. Thanks in advance.

The only thing holding it in becides wires and eletrical connections should be the distributor hold down clamp. If thats out it should slide out realitivly easily?

The only other thing I can see relatively close to the distributor is a bolt that I can't seem to get to. under the dizzy. Don't know how I can get to it w/o taking the intake off. Nowhere to get a socket wrench into and there's not enough room sideways to get a regular wrench
Yup thats the hol down clamps bolt. The way i usually do it is with a flex fittings for my ratchet. Its still not pleasent but i can get it out with alittle effort. Dont forget to mark your distributior befor you pull it just as a side note if you didnt know already. It will make the assembly much easier.
Thanks. This the the first time I've had to pull the dizzy on a 3rd gen. and the dizzy is being replaced so i'll be setting timing and everything when i put the new one in. it's sooo much easier on my 79. way more room to work with.

Well than one thing you might want to do is set the motor to TDC #1 while the distributor is still in place as im sure you know TDC on the harmonic balance if for cylinders 6 and 1 depending on which revolution its on. Its not hard to find if you dont set the motor up now but youll have to pull a spark plug and turn the motor over by hand while feeling for compression bla bla bla when right now you can just pull the cap and see where the rotor is pointed with the harmonic balancer is at TDC 1 or 6. Just a little time saver.
