Help with tps adjustment..going nuts!

Ok guys here what I am doing, I have my muiltimeter set on 20v in the dc mode. positve probe in the middle of the tps and the ground in the bottom wire. Ok now with the key on I am getting 4.26 on the meter and it goes down to 0.51 at wide open throttle. Is this backwards? What the hell am I doing wrong? This car is new to me and I put on a brand new bbk throttle body cause the original one was shot!! I have not driven the car yet either, just trying to get things set right..thanks for the help!!

Blue is the postive right and is the blk negitive? Cause I had the probe on the white wire for the negitive. I searched and it said negitive probe goes on the bottom wire which is white on my car. I put the negitive probe on the top (blk) wire and now it seems to read right..is this correct ??..thxs again

you will have 3 wires top being 5v's, middle goes to the ecm which you measure and bottom is ground. ground you multimeter to the battery measure voltage to the middle pin. sounds like you tps is done. check to make sure you are getting 5vs top and ground on bottum

Re: Help with tps adjustment..going nuts!

ok the top wire is black the middle is blue and the bottom is white. If I take a reading with the positive probe in the blue wire the the ground probe in the white wire I get 4 volts with the throttle closed. If I take the negitive probe and put it the black wire it reads .54 volts and 4.20 at wide open. How do you know if your tps is cooked or not? What color wires should I be taking the readings from?

Just went back out to the car and looked The top wire is black and I am pretty sure thats ground. I measured the blue wire with the ground probe on the batt and got .60 volts than I measure the bottom wire (white) and got 4.99 volts..is mine backwards or something??

Re: Help with tps adjustment..going nuts!

no, is it stock 1987 harness? you readings seem correct blue is the wire you wanna be concerned with.

white wire dont touch black wire dont touch

adjust blue so that throttle closed its at .54 or as close as you can get to it .6v is a bit higher then u want. then open WO throttle and make sure it goes above 4volts
then ur done

heres the diagram for your car assuming its a 1987 305tpi
(it shows your white being grey on the diagram
