I finally got around to getting the IROC to the track since building the motor 5 years ago. I ran a best of 13.68@100.6 with a 2.031 60 foot. Which is about what I expected based on how it feels on the street. However with the combination I am running I would expect it to be a fair bit faster. The car was hooking up pretty well. My setup:
1987 IROC
3450lbs without me (170lbs)
L98 block
Trickflow KD 195cc heads - straight out of the box
ZZ4 cam
Edelbrock TPI manifold
AS&M Runners
Ported Plenum
stock throttle body
24lb injectors
SLP 1-3/4" headers
Catco cat
Edelbrock 3" exhaust
700R4 trans
3.27 posi 9 bolt
completely stock suspension
245/50/16 Goodyear GS-D3 tires
car was tuned before rebuild, before heads, before cam, motor was burning oil at the time, but is setup for 24lb injectors
So what do you think?
I think I need to get the car tuned. Hopefully that will help a lot. I also wonder the condition of the cat after so much oil has been burned through it?
Thanks
John

i think you should do some suspension mods with that combo... you should be in the high to mid 12s with that setup... you have a pretty good setup there.... alot of people over look a stall converter and shift kit, that would help out greatly....a tune would also greatly benefit that setup..... alot of people need to remember that these cars are 18+ years old and they are not going to perform like they did new.....on my old setup i did full bolt ons with the highflow tpi intake similar to yours and added a crane 2032 cam and ended blowing up my 130,000 l98 engine.. got it dynoed and it only put out 213whp by 283wtq....
Yeah actually I'm going through the suspension this fall. Although it will not be a drag setup. I plan to replace everything. See this thread if you are interested. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/su...-build-up.html
No doubt it will help though, maybe hit the tires a little harder. Doesn't explain the lack of MPH though. Motor has about 5000 miles on it. Trans has about 10000 miles on it with a trans-go shift kit. Converter is stock. I'm not sinking any more money into the trans. The car will get a T-56 within a year or so.
Agreed though, I think the car should do high 12's with everything set up right.
well if you engine is that new and you have a shift kit i would say its all in the tune then...... my car would stall out with the hotcam and felt like a pig until i got it tuned.. now my car has loads of low and midrange rpm....
60 foot was 2.031 sec. Very consistent all night. I don't have the 1/8th on me right now. Will have to check when I get home.
On the positive side, I surprised a few LS1 cars by running right next to them for the first 1/8th, and beating all of them to 330'. Also beat a "560 rwhp" supercharged new mustang who was running mid 14's,
If you get that 60' time down via a Tire and a converter then you will be sniffing the 12s.
Its not bad but I am positive you have a lot of room to improve.
PM me if you want to know what I did with my stock set up with mininmal work/ untouched L98.

Check out my IROC-Z and see the times I posted with a stock motor basically, with a few mods, lol, u'll be disapointed with your car, it had 156,000 miles on in too, with a slipping trans.
yea of course... my old converter got clogged because my engine was running rich and then lean...... you couldnt even see through the converter anymore.... so i gutted mine and it didnt seem to struggle nearly as hard..... if it were me i would gut mine... not that hard to do... i used a hammer and pick and then i vacummed out all the dirt and crap that fell out......
just leaving it gutted tends to create turbulence, causing some backpressure issues. drive a pipe through it after gutting it so that you have a clean path for the exhaust.
