Engine Idles funny!

Got an '88 Camaro with a 305 TPI. Sometimes when I first start my car the engine jumps from about 1000 R.P.M. to almost dying, then jumps back up again. It doesn't do this all the time but it does happen every so often. Installed new high pressure fuel pump not long ago, but it did this before that as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Engine Idles funny!

Check your EGR valve for proper operation. I find the EGR valve is the number one cause of a surging idle.

Re: Engine Idles funny!

Would you still think its the egr valve even if when you start your car its idles at 1000 rpm for about a minute then comes down to normal operating range (650-600)?
