TPI Intake on LT1

"makes a TPI flow better."

I have been considering putting a TPI on my LT1. In doing this I have the unusual oportunity to be able to put a second throttle body at the rear of the plenum, thereby taking advantage of the cowl low pressure area. Any thoughts regarding this would be appreciated.

Re: Quest for a better flowing TPI

I think you would be better off just putting a "mono-blade" on it. The key is the manifold absolute pressure in the plenum. If you are close to 100% atmospheric there is no need for a bigger throttle body.

"thereby taking advantage of the cowl low pressure area. Any thoughts regarding this would be appreciated."

I have just read some threads on the subject. Not what it is cracked up to it.

I moved your post from the "Quest for a better flowing TPI" because it didnt belong there.

The only way to get a TPI intake on an LT1 engine is to find the discontinued and rare Accel Super Ram intake made for the LT1 engines. Otherwise, its not worth it. The LT1 intake is a great flowing manifold and will support lots of power on an LT1 engine.

I came here seeking information. The thread is "Quest for a better flowing TPI", I was simply attempting to obtain some opinions regarding a considered modification to increase potentual air flow, and therfore, being a former General Motors service technician, with two years of GM college training thought the question fit here.

PS, I currently have a stock TPI mounted and running quite well on the LT1/T56 in my 76 Vega GT panel express.

Sure, but that thread is for responses to our modifications. Not for info on your parts. Otherwise, the thread gets way off-topic with everyone asking questions about their own stuff and the thread gets meaningless.

I am impressed that you put a TPI intake on an LT1.

It was in a way a response by way of a question. At higher RPM, where the TPI falls flat, that airflow restrictions and the collapse of vaccum created by the operation of an air compressor, more access to air is required to overcome the restrictions, thus the consideration of the dual throttle bodies. After all, the single stock throttle body still has a smaller area than almost any four barrel. I realize that the distributor is not in the way on the LT1 as it is on the standard TPI, however a simple ramp would overcome this, or the use of an aftermarket front mounted distributor drive.

(At this point I have not made up my mind to do another LT1 or an LSX.)
