running extremely rich

OK I ported the plenum blocked the egr, installed a 52mm bbk throttle body, eldelbrock runners, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and relocated the manifold temp sensor. Now the car dosen't want to start without pushing on the gas pedal and smokes like crazy. Also fuel is spraying out the exhaust. I'm thinking 1 or more of my fuel injectors are stuck open somehow. The car ran good before I did all this. Now I'm thinking about a new set of injectors and a chip that deletes the 9th injector and egr. Any ideas. Oh yeah its 87 GTA with a 305.

Re: running extremely rich

Hey this problem sounds familiar! First I would check your fuel pressure and check for fuel in the vaccum line coming out of the regulator. This might be why your running rich. I have had to test my injectors before and I ohmn them. If they ohmn all the same it doesnt mean that they are all good...but if one ohmn's differently then you know that particular one is bad. Let me know what happens.

Re: running extremely rich

OK I forgot to add that I went back to my original fuelpressure regulator. the adjustable wouldn't drop below 45 lbs i didn't think that was to high. It helped a little going back but the car still dosen't like to start with out pressing the gas. I ohmed all my injectors and they are all at 17 ohms but they are probably the originals so i'm still wondering if one isn't stuck open. I just now disconnected the #9 injector and plugged the line. i don't get as much smoke but am getting lots of raw fuel spraying out the back. To me it seems like if I have a stuck injector it has fouled out my plug so its not firing so no more smoke but raw unburned fuel. How do you check for a stuck injector? Or I could leave it as is and put spark plugs in the exhaust and have it shoot flames. (not serious on that last idea)

Re: running extremely rich

Take a light tester, I read on aonther post "Wont start", to test the injecters, ground the tester the one end and probe the injecter wires while car is running. One of the wires should have power at all times, and the other should be flashing/pulse (light). At least you know that the wiring is work properly. The injecter itself, not sure how to test that.... sorry, good luck.

Well here are somethings I've tried. You can physically remove the injector and take it in to a carb or e.f.i. shop to have it check out or use a "fuel injector testing probe". I've also hear of guys pulling the rail off and leaving the injector hooked up so they can see it run. Just becareful with that last one, fuel injector testing probe worked for me.
