I am putting an LS1 in my car, so I bought my self a Walbro fuel pump due to the higher pressure required (GSS340 is the part number) Anyways the old pump had a foam sleeve on it, and the new pump didn't come with one. When I removed the old sleeve I accidently ripped it and can't reuse it now on the new pump. Do the Walbro or other aftermarket pump even require this? I am assuming it is for cooling when the fuel level gets low or something like that. Any help is greatly appreciated!
My LT1 car comes with the Walbro style pump...I replaced it with one anyway recently, and I did not need the foam or anything...didn't even have it I don't think. it doesn't sound familiar anyway. I have driven the car to near empty and full with no issues so far, so I believe you will be ok.
Yea, noise reduction would be its purpose...and if the fuel has ever sat for a while or been old at any point in the cars life, those sleeves tend to be all but falling apart.
When I changed my fuel pump on my 87, I don't recall there being a sleeve on the pump. I replaced it with with a Walbro (because I started running nitrous) and it also did not come with a sleeve. Car has been fine this whole time...
Mods so far: MSD Cap and rotor, MSD ignition coil, Accel 8.8mm ignition wires, Hooker Super Comp Shortie Headers, Flowmaster 3in catback, underdrive crank pulley, custom cold air intake, NOS wet 125 shot, air foil and a lead foot! no E/T's yet. ...TURBO COMING SOON...Other mods include keyless entry and remote start, and Sequential Turn Signals.
Why take anyone's word for it? Just call Walbro.
Are you sure you have a GENUINE Walbro? There are a lot of knockoff's out there from CHINA. They are real crap!
