| Re: Converting MAF to Speed Density I'd asked that before from a few people and I'll tell you what I've heard. If you want to do a cam swap or other air flow mods, the maf can handle them better without a new chip. The map system doesn't like mods to much without a chip burned to compensate for what you did. I've modded a 305 with maf that I have not been able to get to idle right. And some of the guys on the board where nice enough to help me figure out why, and are telling me that it is because I added some 21lb injectors and the ecu basically doesn't know that. The street rodders like map because they don't have to have that big old maf sensor in the way. Plus the thing is like $300.00 compared to a $50.00 map sensor. I bet for the price of the maf sensor you could buy what you needed to convert it over to map. So if it goes out that'll give you something to think about, but untill then I haven't heard any great reason to change over. But I'm sure someone will tell us. |
