Injector testing

Im having problem with injector . I tested ground by using volt meter .I placed red lead on battery terminal and black on ground on the injector harness. It read 12.2 volts. I tested hot side on injector harness with red lead on pink white side and black to ground. 12.1 volts. I ohmed the injector at 14.7. Why wont injector work. Could it be plugged?

Re: Injector testing

First off why dont you think your injectors are working? and is this just one injector or all of them. If its all of them its probably your VATS system shutting them down. Do a search on VATS and it will probably come up with hundreds of threads that are all about that same symptom of injectors not firing and how to diagnose it.

Re: Injector testing

This is one injector not working. I pulled the plug and it is dry. I do have spark to this cylinder. If i use my tester and touch both plugs on harness with leads i do not get any reading. If i test from battery to ground side i get 12 volts meaning i should have a ground right. i test positive side of harness to ground on engine and i get 12 volts. .I recently replaced heads on this engine and that cylinder has never fired. Engine was rebuilt when i bought it but wouldnt run right. The heads and pushrods were all shot . Must have been used stuff they put back in. The piston in number 3 looked new. Engine will start and run but this cylinder will not fire. Please help.

Re: Injector testing

The ohm reading and voltage readings do not mean the pintle is able to move or not. The ohm reading tests the coil windings, the voltage just assures the ecm is trying to do its job. Its possible the pintle is stuck closed for some reason, and the only way to really verify that beyond what you've done is pull the fuel rails and crank the car and see if that injector sprays fuel or not. I'm guessing it wont, and personally I would just try to find a replacement to put in there while the fuel rail is off and forget testing it any more than you already have.

Re: Injector testing

Madmax you are right. I just made a noid light and plugged it in. It was just about dark so i could see it well. I do have power and it was pulsing. So i gues i have to tear down the intake and remove this injector.
