doesnt want to accelerate

okay heres them problem when i first drive the car it runs fine but after about 30 mins of driving if i decide to stomp on the gas or even get the rpms above 1500 it doesnt want to accelerate. It spits and spudders and backfires sometimes almost like it wants to die. if i keep it under 1500 it will accel slowly. When i first got the car around a month ago the check engine light was on but it drove fine i drove it for like 3 day and then noticed the water pump was leaking so i replaced the water pump and a belt that i saw was craking really bad. i hooked everything back up and drove it to the store which was around 6 miles away. On the way back it started doing this and basically died on me so i pulled over and looked under the hood and saw that the mass air flow sensor wires had rubbed up against the belt causing bare wires to show and cutting through one and on top of all of that one of them was touching a metal bracket. It hasnt run right sense but when its cold it will run good for 30 mins and then start acting up and if i go back out to it a few hours later it still does the same thing.

I replaced the Burnoff and fuel pump relay, a new fuel fiilter i tried replacing the maf power relay but when i put a new one in it wont run longer than 2 seconds and then shuts off. Ive also replaced most of the vacuum hoses that i saw. checked fuses and they were okay. took off the tpi unit and cleaned it.

Its a 87 305 TPI automatic

I hope someone out there has had this problem but fixed it and if so could you please let me know what i should look for
college student with very little income no job!!!!!

Re: doesnt want to accelerate

its in front ot the axle on the drivers side so if you have some ramps back it up on them to get to it and you will need 2 wrenches to do it but i dont remember what size they are

Re: doesnt want to accelerate

so obviously the maf connector has been damaged. thats your problem. you need to splice in a new maf connector.

try cleanig the MAF sensor with fast drying electrical contact cleaner. The computer is in open loop when the the engine is cold. When the temp comes up it goes into closed loop and reads the volume of air coming in from the MAF sensor. DO Not touch the sensors, they sould be silver in color after you clean them.
