Yet another code 34

I hooked my car up to my laptop with an aldl cable and it said that it was running rich and it later gave me a code 34. I have lost 2 to 3 mpg recently as well, along with more idle troubles and a little bit of smelly exhaust. Sound like the maf?

i got a straight to the point answer for you. It even tells you what is goin on with your code 34 and why its causing the code to trip. Just look up your fault code and boom.

Re: Yet another code 34

Have you dealt with an maf code before ? Last time mine was triggered by a vss. The ses light wasn't even on this time. So, anyone else who is serious?

Re: Yet another code 34

. did you disconnect the battery to clear the code? The ses light wasnt on because the issue came and went. If a code is tripped longer than 10 seconds then gets fixed as in the contacts are making good contact, then the ses light will go out, but the memory will still be stored in the ECM as a stored trouble code even if the problem is fixed. Once fixed, you must disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to clear the memory. If you dont believe me, check out this site and read the article, section Troublecodes. http://books.google.com/books?id=t1S...0codes&f=false

Re: Yet another code 34

It could be the MAF, or the MAF relays. I had an intermittent code 34, but it ended up being the MAF. A lot of people have good luck changing the relays.

I've done that but it's still there. I'll do it again though for good measure. Thanks for the help. There is something wrong though...I went from over 18 mpg down to the 14 range.

Can a relay cause a loss in fuel economy? I wish I knew more about reading sensors through the programs, maybe I would be able to pinpoint it. Thanks.

18 mpg to 14 mpg. Thats a lot of gas my man. I recommend performing the TPI optimization method first. Then see if you it makes a difference in your fuel economy. Follow links.

AND THIS ON TOO!

Once you try out the TPI Optimisation, then check your tire pressure and so on, you know, the basic stuff. Good luck. Also yes, a deffective MAF Sensor or deffective MAF Sensor Power Relay can throw off the economy of the fuel. Im not sure how but I it is bad (MAF), it will tell the ECM that the measurement of air going into the engine is either too low or too high and the ECM will try to make adjustments by either reducing or increasing the amout of fuel entering the engine (via fuel injectors). Yes the ECM controls how long the injector stays "open." I sure there is a much better explaination but this is my understanding. Good luck.

Wow thanks a ton! All that helps a lot. I can't quite adjust the iac quite right because I have funky throttle body (it's been that way since I bought the car), but I'm working on that. I've been wanting to get some real nice plug wires and this pertronix hei upgrade kit with a new coil and module, but I'm broke at the moment. Honestly, if I can manage to find another job soon, I'd love to replace the map, tps, maybe the maf, etc just for good measure, but that's probably not the smartest thing to do financially. I think I'm gonna replace that relay and see what happens. Thanks for your help!
