355 Tpi... Deal or No Deal

Ok I found I guy near my city who builds engines and I've been looking for a 350 for sometime now to replace this piece of s*** 305 that I have..... The guy wants $1000 for the motor, and I just wanted to make sure it was worth buying, he says with this engine I should get 300 horse power on pump gas!....so wat better way to find out then to bring it to the experts of the f bodies.... lol....

I'm not looking for a race car just trying to get decent noticeable power so I can keep up with my friends (who all have third gens by the way) and this 305 is not cutting it..... plus i might want to do mods to her later on down the road and i know the restrictions that are in place when dealing with a 305.... with that said I have a 86 t/a with the stock 305 tpi in it. I want to keep my tpi set up just so it has that original look in case I ever sell her, the guy selling the motor said that I should just be able to bolt the tpi on the heads and just change a couple of things because I can't use them on a 350 from my 305(knock sensor , injecters etc...) the only thing extra that ill be adding right now is some headers

Here's a description of the motor, it is 030over 4 bolt main moly rings comp cam double roller timing chain high volume oil pump 300h/p hydralic cam, 305 HO heads w/big valves, it has a dish piston and he said with these heads it is 9.2 compession. The engines are completely rebuilt and they are complete from intake to oil pan, he also said that I'm lookin at about 300h/p on pump gas.

Now does this sound like a pretty decent deal?? And will my tpi bolt on to these heads without any problems?? And last does his horsepower rating of 300 sound about accurate ??

Re: 355 Tpi... Deal or No Deal

You won't be able to use the 305 knock sensor on a 350. You will have to get a new knock sensor for a 350.

The factory 350 TPI setup used bigger injectors than the 305 TPI, so you may have to get new injectors as well.

For TPI bolt on to the new engine you have to check the intake bolt pattern of your existing TPI base plate and the cylinder head bolt pattern on the new engine.

What about the horse power, does it sound like he rated it correctly at 300 horsepower??

The HP depends on a lot of things that are not known about the engine at the moment.
