So a little history here, my mom bought the car in 2008, drove it for 2 years started running poorly and breaking down on her, she brought it to a few local garages they threw parts at it, fuel pump (x2) rotor button, cap, plugs, wires, etc...claimed thy couldnt figure it out...2012 my wife and i get married and mom gives us the car for a wedding gift (broken irocz convertible) thanks! Haha, its been stored ever since.....we (my dad and i) messed with it a few times trying to do simple diagnostics here is what we found....fuel pump works have fuel at rail plenty of squirt....we have spark....timing is close.....battery is charged....a few vacuum lines are disconnected but plugged....it will run on ether!...so today i went to work on the car and i ohmed all injectors they ranged from 16.0-16.2...after checking ohms we were trying to use a test light as a noid light to see if we were getting signal to fire injectors, CAR STARTED WITH cyl 4 injector unplugged while trying to test....(this car hasnt run on its own power for 2+ years) the test light never lit, so we were ecstatic and let it run so i plugged the injector plug back onto injector and idle smoothed..was idling high but was just corrosion at the butterlfy so we sprayed it with pb blaster and worked it in and it idled fine and ran strong revved quick, then it started smoking from underneath and a nest (chipmunk/squirrel/mice) on the exhaust caught fire we put it out quickly but shut car off.....tried to refire car...wouldnt start......waited 10minutes .....unplugged #4 injector it started and ran rough till i plugged #4 back together and smoothed....we then let it run for over an hour while revving it here and there and holding it at different rpms....may have heard a skip here and there but sounded great to hear it run....then after a while longer i tried revving and it wasnt snappy at all and then i put in reverse to back up and it died...thats when i had to leave i had other stuff to do today....can anyone suggest anything that knows these cars way better than me! Im honestly a first gen guy but i now own a pretty rare third gen and would like to enjoy it..is something getting hot?? Pick up coil?? Im lost dont know if it was coincidence about the #4 injector being unplugged and it starting that way?? So frustrating! Any and help is appreciated! Thank you!

your injectors may be dirty/plugged up with goop.do a fuel pressure test. notice if the pressure dropped off quickly.do you have any codes showing?

It could not hurt to unplug ECM and check connection I have had cars that sat need wire connections checked...as far as running sluggish with running bad for some time the cat might have gotten clogged...what year car? Iroc so im guessing MAF car?
