Cannot stop pinging. Need ideas
383 tpi had been running nicely for a while. The lifters got noisy after sitting during the winter. When replacing them, i port matched and cleaned up the lower manifold. After getting it back together, it now pings over 3000 and 1/3 throttle. I replaced the knock sensor and esc. Checked continuity from knock sensor plug to esc and is good. I ordered another chip and made no difference. Base timing is at 6*. 10:1 compression and 92 octane. The old lifters had been stuck at full height. I was thinking a burned valve but theres no unusual running. I swapped to a step colder plug with no change. It does run warm, which it always has. It sounds mostly towards the passenger side.

Re: Cannot stop pinging. Need ideas
Is there a possibility that the water passage from the front of the pass side head to the intake was partially blocked when the lifters were changed?

Re: Cannot stop pinging. Need ideas
Im fairly sure the intake is clear. I will try the sea foam because the plugs did have some carbon on them. I want to try higher octane but i cant find any place nearby that sells it. I did verify the timing changed when revved but cant read the decal anymore to see where it is maxing out. Im saving up to switch to a holley avenger but i dont want to swap it and still have the same issue

The closest place in the gas listing that displays higher than 93 is 100 miles away

Ill see if that helps. I idles much better with 12* base but i would never run it at that

Re: Cannot stop pinging. Need ideas
ping got very bad and now has excessive blowby. i lost a half a quart of oil through the dipstick tube on a 20 mile drive. it also blows the pcv out of the valve cover if run hard and smokes out of the breather even with the pcv installed

At least you discovered what the problem was. Good luck on the build.
