Fuel Pressure Regulator FPR symptoms
So I just get my cooling issue taken care of and I'm happy as can be.. Stop at the market, come back out and now it idles rough and feels like I just lost 3 spark plugs... slight smell of gas under the hood, no fuel in the FPR vacuum line.
I get over 1500RPM and it runs smoother...in addition it comes and goes.
Doesn't look like its ever been changed 175,000 miles ....
Been reading up on the FPR and sound like it might be what I'm chasing.
89 Formula TPI 350 Bone stock and I want to keep it that way here in CA

Unless the FPR was leaking externally, you wouldn't smell fuel.
Take a wiff of the EVAP canister, it may not be purging,...in the old days of the charcoal and over filling tanks, they would/could fill up with raw fuel...not sure what's in ours, but worth a look/check.

Not really, every once it a while it blows oil smoke at start up but I attributed that to the 175K miles.....

Just some suggestions to try... Loosen the gas cap to allow free venting with the idea that the tank vent hose is clogged. I would also consider leaking injectors. Let it sit for a few minutes and try pushing the schrader valve on fuel rail and see if gas squirts out, if none after 5-10 minutes then FPR or injectors leaking. Maybe, I am thinking this because I am having this problem as we speak/type. Little smoke at 175k is certainly expected.

Fuel squirted out after sitting for 24 hours.... I'm pretty sure I found it. My distributor is a mess. Lots of corrosion. Went in cleaned the pickup and reluctor, the shaft ground to the rotor wasn't great either. Put it all back together and she's runnin' smooth again.
Looks like its time for a new distributor...
