what tranny fluid should i use???

I was wondering if B&M trick shift would be a good fluid to use in my new tranny? Has anyone used it before?

What else would be good to use???

All B&M trickshift is, is just regular tranny fluid with a color die in it to make it look different and it costs $5 a quart....I would recommend Dextron II OR if you want you can use TYPE F, it will give you hard shifts BUT if you use TYPE F you will have to change your tranny fluid very often (like once every 1000miles).

REDLINE oil is a very good brand...Their Synthetic Racing ATF is equivalent to Type F or Dexron II

all the B&M fluid is is basically type F fluid, same as all other "racing" fluids, if you notice all the companys say there ford approved, but never GM. go and get some type F fluid for 1.30$ a quart and save yourself alot of money over the expensive stuff which is basically the same thing.

2nd vote for Amsoil synth here, great stuff. I beat the snot out of my TH700-R4 trans with this fluid, road racing and drag racing at Memphis then Pocono Raceway road courses at two separate events. Several trips to Island Dragway thrown in also at 8-10 runs each time.

I changed it at the end of the season just for good measure, but it was still cherry-red and I probably wasted perfectly good fluid.

I also use Amsoil synth in my engines, choosing it over Royal Purple, Mobil-1, and RedLine simply for lack of data to compare against. Amsoil's web page has plenty of usable numbers...the SAE "wear scar" being pretty much the only uniform indicator of lubrication quality that I have been able to find. I don't doubt the others are very good, tho.

yeah i also want to know what retail stores would carry amsoil as of yet ???

kevin, what year was the 700 you ran ?

someone do please explain the bigg differences of ford type and dextron ? looks like ford and amsoil are winning this one! synthetic provides extra antiwear, so wouldnt that be something that would make clutch discs slip easier rather than bite harder ?
would be good for metal wearing parts though,..

or am i way off on this ?

I buy my Amsoil stuff off their website www.amsoil.com but some mom 'n pop shops carry it. Forget the chain stores {Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc}.

My TH700 was an '88 model with components from TCI and B&M shift improver kits as well as a Fairbanks servo. It was sold last year in favor of a T56.

Do a search on "Trick Shift" and you'll see why people don't like it, basically just Type F fluid.

TypeF is good stuff in terms of shifting quality, gear changes are noticeably firmer with this than Dexron. The downside is it's rougher on your internal components as Transfixleo probably can attest. Run Dexron and your trans will be happier, run TypeF and your clutch packs will be happier. Run good synth and a well-designed trans kit, and everyone's happy...
