S-10s should have the Eaton Locker, wich is not ideal for race applications.

well i was at a swap meet yesterday, i picked up a posi srom an s 10 for 50 bucks and its in good shape....... so ill probably go and get some 6cyl. gears from the junkyard and slap it together
I had that Eaton POS in my Blazer till the gov lock mechanism locked and would not unlock. I replaced it with an Auburn. If you're at a wracking yard you may as well try to find a low mileage unit from a 3rd or 4th gen. You still need to replace bearings and check for the R & P set up.
When Chevy Hi Performance did their "My Generation Camaro" series, they used both a set of 3.73s and posi from an S10. I don't know what type of posi it was, but they just rebuilt it and voila!
According to the shop I bought my Auburn from it would be more expensive to rebuild the Eaton than to buy a complete Auburn. Plus I like the Auburn dessign better it is locked unless it needs to slip, the Eaton is unlocked until it detects 100rpm difference in right to left wheel speed. The Auburn is much simpler idea remember the KISS principal Keep It Simple Stupid.
