Can I use Dextron III?

Tranny dipstick on my 2.8 says, "Use Dextron II ONLY". I have 3 bottles of Dextron III sitting on my shelf in the garage. Is it safe to use? I would think so, but then again, I don't want to blow anything up. I just need to add a little until I have time to change the fluid and replace the gasket on my pan. Thanks!

Its reccomended that you use Dexron III. When your dipstick was made, Dexron II was "the thing" to use. Since then, Dexron III has superceded Dexron II. I really don't think you can even buy Dexron II anymore.

Thanks alot! I thought so, but would rather be sure before doing something that could have the potential to be stupid. :hail:

Look at your dipstick again. There's no T in Dexron. I think there might be a Dexron IV now.

Ahhh, so Dexron? My bad! I think it sounds cooler with the "t". At least I didn't say camEro! :lala:

Also, LOOK at the bottle of Dexron III and it should state that it replaces/will work in place of Dexron II....

Every bottle of Dexron III that I have seen states this...
