Q about driving 700r4 while fluid is low

i just traded for an 84 Z28- basically just like the one i just had recently- tonight, and what are the odds of doing any clutch pack damage by driving car while fluid level is known to be low ? is an 82-84 700r4., was low enough to not want to get out of second gear when warm and would slip rev in gear while going down road and tranny car not speeding up past 25(3.23 or 3.42 rear gears)

the kid just put the tranny in recently and says line is leaking at tranny. says line is tight and leaks anyways, how can it leak if line is tight ?

thanks for anything,

Anytime there is slippage, damage is being done. If the fluid gets too low, you'll starve the pump and ruin it as well.
