Well i have successfully rebuilt my 700 with the exception of putting the valve body back on. I do not know where the ball bearings that fell out are supposed to be placed in the vavlve body passages. Does anybody have a picture or a really good description of where they go? Desperately need help with this.
I don't know if this will help much, but a couple years ago I installed a B&M shift improver kit in my 700R4 (huge mistake btw), but i seem to remember the instruction manual having a fairly detailed view of the valve body and the locations of the check balls. The company might have instructions online that would be useful to you. Hope this helps and good luck with your car.

How'd you rebuild the 700r4 without a manual?? Did the kit come with instructions? Or was everything fairly obvious as you took it apart? Just curious, I want to rebuild my 700r4 soon... got a ton of books on it already...

It wasn't a full rebuild, it consisted mainly of taking apart the valve body and changing the plate between the two halves and installing a new servo. It was a bad idea, as anyone on this site will tell you, B&M shift improver kits are bad bad bad news. It killed my tranny in about 6 months. The instructions were detailed regarding the location of the check balls in the valve body, it didn't cover a full rebuild of the transmission.
LOL... I was talking to littlemule, he made it sound like he rebuilt the transmission completely. I know all about the B&M kit, put one in myself back in '97. As soon as I rebuild the trans completely, the B&M kit's coming out, and the TransGo is going in.

thanks for your help guys. as it turns out, i had tranny fluid sticking to several pages that were holding the pics and directions. After that everything was good until the converter got stuck against the flywheel. so now it all comes back off to reset the converter correctly. oh well, i'm used to little things like tis happening.
Tom P, I just finished rebuilding my 700. I also put in the transgo kit as well as extra clutches in the 3/4 pack. Get the video if you can (I did) it really helps. If you have a welder you can make some of the tools required for the pump removal and the spring compressor for the clutch pistons. Its not exactly a job that you can just put back together if you remember where everything goes. And watch that video. I watched it about 4 times before it really started clicking. THEN when you start pulling the trans apart it starts to make sense in a hurry. The transgo kit roxxxx too. I got the optional accumulator kit too. World of difference in shift quality and streetability. Probiult wasnt lying about the kit and the streetability that goes along with it. It shifts like a caddillac at part throttle and is ALL BUSINESS when you step on it.
Very firm shifts and zero banging. And if you had bad flare-up on the 2-3 shift, you can kiss that goodbye. I think my 2-3 shifts as fast and as hard as 1-2...maybe faster. Lemme know if you have any Qs....
