How many shifter shafts does it have? If it has 2, it's a 3-speed; if it has 3, it's a 4-speed. If it's a 4-speed, and the reverse shifter shaft is in the case (not th eextension housing), it's a Saginaw. If the reverse shifter shaft is in the ext hsg, it's a Muncie or a Warner. If the case is aluminum but the cover is iron, it's a Warner.
If it's a 3-speed, odds are very high that it's a Saginaw.

Like RB8 said its very hard to tell. Muncie made HD 3speeds and they are RARE! Ive got one in my 76 PU and they are very rare in trucks also. Ive heard tale of Muncie 3 speeds in 1st gens but all Ive seen are Saginaws. I'll check my ID numbers tomorrow and see if I come up with a match. I remember hurst www.mrgasket.com/ has a huge list with ID numbers in a shifter selection PDF file.
