is there a difference 83 700r4 and 88 700r4

im getting an 88 truck from my dad for free with a good running 5.7 tbi with a 700r4 tranny and i plan on rebuilding the the engine and tranny and puttign them into my car with the exception of the tbi it will be carbed and i was wondering if ill have any probs using the 88 700r4 in my 83 z28 at all also for a short wile i might just use the 88 700r4 behind my 83 305 cause it runs very well but the tranny in it leaks a little fluid.
were the 88 700r4 trannys built any better the back in 83?

The 88 700-R4 is a better one, however shift points may be at lower rpms than you want because of governor. Not sure if 83 governor fits 88 trans. Change the speedo gears so your speedo is right and swap it into your car.

The 1988 truck heads are HORRIBLE for power as the intake ports are blocked off for swirl. Look into different ones.

good luck.
