Need some help finding and fixing a strange whining noise in my 86 IROC. If you would all take a minute and direct your attention to this post here I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey Mikes86SC - did you ever figure this problem out? My 88 IROC 700r4 does the exact same thing. It whines when in gear, but not in Park or nuetral and the pitch of the whine changes with engine rpm.

Another weird thing is the shifter will not allow the tranny to go into park. It makes me think that the cable is loose because I have to shift past the gear I want and then bring the shifter back until it locks on the gear I want.

I am more concerned about the whine though.
