700R4 vs TH350 advantages

Ok I've heard alot of different opinions about this swap. Some say 700R4 is better because it has overdrive and a better first gear ratio. Others say that the TH350 is a much stronger trans. I have one of each sitting in my garage waiting to go into my car. I have a 350 chevy with around 375 hp. and am trying to decide which trans to hook up to it. Both have shift kits installed, both are pretty fresh rebuilds. I just wonder if the 700R4 is better then why do they make a kit to put a th350 in. What is everyone's opinion on these. Thanx

the th 350 should last longer but the 700 has a better first gear and it has overdrive which is a real plus if you do a lot of hyway driving, etc.

so basically if I just do in town driving and the occasional trip to the drag strip I should be going with the th350? And then just through some better rear end gears in?

Not sure I'd use the word "should".

How far do you have to drive to the strip?

Both can be built strong and reliable. IMO, it's cheaper cost(th350) vs having overdrive(700r4). I've had both and their is no way I'd switch back to the th350. However, mine is an everyday car and it's a highway drive to get anywhere when you live in a town with a population of 380. 2150 rpm at 60 is much better than 3000 rpm at 60 to me.

Go with the 700R4. It should hold up, but if not, you got a TH350 waiting for you at home

Performance wise at the track you will not see much difference if any between the 2, not that I miss the 700r4 at all, but the OD is nice. I was running a rebuilt 700r4 with all the Trans-Go stuff and Coan 2800 stall. Installed a TH375 shortly there after since my end goal is a 10 sec street car and I don't want to have thousands wrapped up in a trans to hold the power, anyways, the TH375 has a 3500 stall and the ET's and finish line rpm were identical. The 700 should more than handle the 375hp you got, but again I do not miss that heavy, TV cabled beast one bit.
