Im thinking of switching my 700r4 to th350.What i was wondering is I have a dual gate 2 shifter for an 82-92 camaro. Can i still use that shifter. Also do i have to change the speedo cable also and who makes a good conversion braket for this switch and how hard is it to do the conversion.Sorry for so many questions but im reallyintrested in doing this project this winter...
Thanks

About the overall conversion, you will need a different crossmember, a longer driveshaft and torque arm and possibly a braket to allow the torque arm to work with the 350 (I think someone sells one but I'm not sure...). The speedo cable should work as long as both trannys are cable driven.
Well, I'm going to say that you could probably use the shifter. You might want to figure out some way to prevent the shifter from going all the way down into the '1' indicator so as to not stretch the cable if you accidentally pull down too far (Meaning you would only be using OD, D, and 2 indicators on the shifter). You can probably use the stock shift cable, you will just have to make sure the shifter and transmission are in sync. Instructions are in the back of the Dual Gate Instructions.

Well lets see when I swapped in a v-8 in for my 6 I put in a turbo 350 behind it. I used the same crossmember, same driveshaft, and same torque arm mounting just cause I am special and found a tail housing with the torque are mount. I use the stock 700 r4 shifter . So it can be done with only a adapter kit for the torque arm.

Really? I always thought that the 350 had a 6" tailshaft whereas the 700-R4 had a 9" tailshaft? I know that people are always looking for 200C driveshafts when doing the swap to a 350...because they are longer than the 700-R4 driveshafts...
You need a TH350 with the 9" tailshaft. Then your stock driveshaft will work fine. You also need the kit from B&M or Hurst that allows you to mount your stock torque arm to the TH350. I am not sure on your shifter though. I just did the swap and I have the B&M Megashifter which can be used on either a 4 speed or a 3 speed trans.
The B&M shifter has a little bolt in the rachet mechanism that you can take out for 4 gears or put in to only allow 3. Maybe your shifter has a similar type removable stop in the lower mechanism itself.
Im not worried about the driveshaft i have one form a 200c it came off my cousins 82 firefird. The only thing that suks is i have a dualgate shifter and i really like it,,,
I have a 92 L98 option That I just swapped a th350 into. Used the 02 ss driveshaft, which was already on the car whn the 700r4 was in, all i used was the hurst relocation bracket for the torque arm, did have to weld on a tab to make it meet with the trans mount properly. but i Did indeed do the swap with ONLY the Kid and sme Help from my " fabricator/Mechanic"
