T56 LT1 clutch install

I'm getting ready to put in my 383 along with my T56 and gonna be using a Spec 3 clutch and decided to put the clutch on the flywheel before putting it in the car. Now the clutch didn't come with any instructions and I'm a manual clutch virgin. I put the disk against the flywheel with the alignment tool keeping it centered and then put the pressure plate over top of it and started the pressure plate bolts by hand. Since I didn't have any instructions that came with it, I looked up the pressure plate bolt torque specs in my Haynes manual and it called for 15ft/lbs then an additional 30 degrees. But when I get the 15lbs, the pressure plate is still about 1/4 inch away from the flywheel. The pressure plate is supposed to be up against the flywheel right? I ended up have to put about 60lbs on the bolts to just get the plate to touch the flywheel. Is this because the specs that I looked up for a stock clutch and I'm using a higher pressure plate with more pressure in the fingers? Any suggestions would be great.

I worry more about making sure the pressure plate is touching the flywheel then anything else, as long the bolts didn't feel like they we stretching you should be ok.

I don't recall the bolts feeling like they were stretching, they were pretty tight though. And as far as bumping the clutch while putting the motor in, the plan is to install with the bellhousing on to so it shouldn't hit anything.
