new guy looking for knowledge about t700r4

hey well like i said im new to camaro's and im trying to get a feel for the cars strong and weaks points. my 91 camaro has a 305 tpi with a t700r4 and the previous owner put a 89 iroc 3:23 rear end in it. the engine has shorty headers with a full exhaust back and a fireball ignition. the tranny has a 2200 b&m stall and a shift kit in it. how strong and reliable are the tranny and rear-end and about how much can they handle. as well any recommendations on preventive's for the drive train? thanks
Bryce

If you keep up the tranny, they are very reliable and strong. IF you take care of it, I have heard of them going as quick as mid 11's without blowing up. You can't beat the gear ratios that it offers and especially with 3.23 gears, that makes for a good launching car as well as getting great gas mileage on the highway.

The tranny and rearend are pretty reliable, as long as you don't abuse them (neutral drops, slicks, lots of donuts/burnouts, etc.) If you're looking to put out some serious power I would look at a Pro-Built 700r4, they're good up to 600hp and Dana really knows how to build them. As for the rearend, 28 spline forged moser axles, richmond gears (or GM, US Gear, Motive, etc.) and a good posi or locker will make it last in a high power application.

Oh, stock holding power, for the 700r4 I wouldn't go more than ~350-400hp with it stock and the rearend should be fine up to about ~450hp as long as you don't bolt on slicks (traction is what kills parts). Those estimates are for the driver who doesn't abuse it, but isn't nice to it all the time.

They are pretty reliable when built nice,
[ vett servo and all them other cool tricks]
The over drive is nice but personally I hate em.
Course it was the early model that jaded me.

i dont have possesion of the car yet, the seller has to take care of acouple things, so i dont know if it has a tranny cooler on it. i know that heat kills a tranny faster than a etheopean at sizzlers. so if it has a cooler what recommendations do you give on a aftermarket trans oil coolers. also trans fluid any alternative fluids and same with the rear-end. sorry if it sounds like i am asking alot but i am really trying not to look like a jack-*** once i get to the track and break something. thanks alot you guys have gave a good basic idea of how far i can go. for now

For fluids I would recommend full synthetic Amsoil products. They make good stuff.
