My speedo doesn't work????

I recently got an 84 camaro z28 and the speedometer doesn't work right it just bounces around when i pick up speed and it won't shift into overdrive I am going to take it to a transmission shop next week but I want to get you guys input. The guy who gave me the car, him and his dad put in the trannie so im sure thats who caused the problems.

So you can get diagnosis over the internet, then gloat when someone doesn't guess right?

I don't understand why people do this.

What have you done to diagnose it? Have you undone the speedo cable at the trans, and spun it w/ your fingers to see how the speedo acts?

That is the reason why i posted the topic in the first place so someone could tell what diagnosis i could do myself before taking it to the trannie shop.

Dude all he was asking for is input, what we think. I don't know why people have to be rude about things on here, its pointless. I would try greasing the speedo cable or replacing it.
