Best Torque Converter And Stall Speed For A Stock 700R4

What do u think guys? I got my tranny rebuilt with the transgo shiftkit, need opinions up in here

I used a 2500 stall on my 700. It worked well for me untill I blew it up. Not the convertes fault.

Smaller diameter stall should increase your tq multiplier and decrease stress put on the trans. Dana at Pro-Built is great at matching stalls to combos. When I ordered mine he took down my CI, cam specs, intake, rear end gear... and a bunch of other stuff I've forgotten about.

Definitely call Dana @ Probuilt or at least call up a few different transmission shops (aftermarket speed shops, not "fix its") and compare thier advice. Don;t listen to anyone who doesn;t ask you for your cam specs and rear gears AT LEAST.

what if you dont know yet what kinda power your engine will be making? i wanna upgrade my converter while i have my tranny out but in the meantime it's going behind a mostly stock motor. i do have a block on a stand that i'd like to rebuild. but i have no idea yet what i want out of it. all i know is it wont be a 14+ second motor. i'd like to buy a converter now and still be able to use it later on.

You could play a guessing game with your cam, heads, gears, etc. If it were me though I would just use the stock stall and take the car to the dyno when you are done and find out exactly what you need.

cool, thanks guys, but like what brand should i get, b&m is out of the question, i hear alot of bad things about them, im thinkin of the saturday night special but dont know yet

Depending on the application I would suggest a smaller diameter ones... the B&M's are the same size as stock so it doesn't help reduce drivetrain stress or increase the multipler.

how about a vette converter with a slight higher stall than f-bodies?

i wont be going to crazy with my next motor. i still want it to be streetable. im aiming for low 13s/high 12 with a LTR setup. i'll have my tranny out and if a higher stall will truly benefit, then i wanna go for it. i do drive under 2000 RPMs a lot, while racing only on weekends.

I went with the Vigilante 2400 on Dana @ Pro-Built's suggestion. I couldn't be happier with the converter, or the tranny he built me

If you want the best stall converter for your car, call one of the companies that makes the converters (B & M, ACI) and ask them what they reccomend. Go to the experts, They will ask you waht kind of engine, gearing, and the purpose of the car, and will find you the optimum converter.
