Trust me about the cold. I feel you, it was -8 last night with the wind chill. But anyway, do a search in google for G-Force Transmissions. Also do one on this site. There is some information on them.

I love ohio, but sometimes the damn cold just gets to you. I don't think I have seen you around, but we don't see too many 3rd gens by us and then most of them are rusted out(thanks to our best friend "Salt"). I took off my entire exhaust system from the headers back out during january. Damn did it kill my hands. I still have the imprint of my socket wrench imbeded in my hand.

P.S. Go Lebron... 38pts. hell yeah

This is so they don't close the post and get pissed....

I know G-force will actually rebuild your transmission for you if you send them your original. That way you won't kill your hands outside. Plus they say that there t-5 kit handles about 550TQ. Check them out!!

From your description of what happened, you probably broke major parts in the trans, such as gears or the mainshaft. A "rebuild" won't fix that.

You will spend hundreds of dollars if you need gears. They're expensive.

I'd suggest getting another trans, and learning the lesson that was just made available to you; namely, that the T-5 won't stand up to that kind of abuse. You can kill one (at least, I sure can) with a 305; or you (again, at least I can) can make it live behind a 400. It's all in driver technique.

They show up on the classifieds on this site all the time. You can probably get a whole other one for half of what it will cost you to fix the one you have, or less.

I agree with RB83L69. Your trasn has been severely damaged. I wouldn't waste any money trying to fix it if you are on a tight budget. Your best bet is to just buy a good used trans and learn to take it easy with your right foot. Shock loads will kill a T5 every time, so clutch drop burnouts aren't ever a good idea, even with a stock car, let alone a modified one.

Hanlon's site isn't that good in terms of finding what you need. If you call them they will get you exactly what you need every time. The rebuild kit (bearings, synchros, small parts, and seals) runs about $185. Individual gears are between $45-$75, except for the counter gear which is about $150. The Z-spec double moly gearsets are $450 complete (every gear). If the mainshaft is damaged you are FUBAR, because they've been discontinued, though not that it really matters because they were like $700 when you could buy them.

I think you can now see why we're just recommending buying a used box. You can pick them up for $50-$500 depending on who's selling them and the condition. Make sure to get a V8 WC one so you can keep your existing clutch setup, and it will handle a lot more abuse than a non-WC or V6 unit.

I know that guys but the G-force kit is a complete transmission. You can buy it new, or send them in yours and they reuse the case but all the guts are all brand new. New gears, Mainshaft, etc. You can also have them send you the set and you can save a few bucks by doing the work yourself.

You can buy just the kit and install it yourself. IIRC, the kit is close to 1K...not a cheap rebuild at the least. They'll install the kit for you for an additional 200, but you pay shipping to/from there.

In my situation, I had them find me a good case and they installed the kit and sent it to me, with a Pro-5.0 shifter. But the car is my toy, and not an everyday ride to work. Makes a big diff. on which way to go....

EDIT: And as for myself, I'd take the damaged trans apart you have now to see exactly what the damage is. I'll have to (respectfully) disagree with RB and TKO on this one. It's not gonna hurt a thing, and it'll let ya see how they go together!! I don't see a downfall.

And there may even be a small chance it's rebuildable!!

I'm not saying don't take the trans apart. I'm saying don't just start ordering parts before looking into it, and given what he has described a simple rebuild kit won't fix his problem. If it is going to cost $350 to fix it then he should be able to find a good used WC T5 for far less. A junkyard down by me has three for $100 each with a warranty.

Yup same here, none to be found.., Seriously if you can get wc t5 for $100 a pop, I would buy every one and offer them up for $200 on the classifieds or on ebay and make some money!! (an of course save your self one, since then they will all be gone from your area too.)

I've certainly thought about it. It's kind of a pain though, and I have to go out of pocket up front for stuff that to me is junk that I can't use (I've got a T56 now). When and if money starts growing on trees I'll invest in used T5 futures.

Wow! I forgot about this thread.

Yeah, most definately!! Shifts nice, but a little more gear noise than stock.

But, I haven't tested it behind my 406 yet, so for now I'm WELL within what it's rated at, but I'll be alot closer in 2 more months!!!

I'll know even more then.
