i need a to replace the speedo gear in my T5, went to the dealership and they have no idea wich one I need, i need ot tell them how many teeth it has etc. etc.
So i ask all of you, how many teeth would a speedo gear have for a 3.23 rear end & 255/50/16 size tires, I honestly dont even care if it's a bit off, I'm just sick of this thing throwing a vss code and running in home limp mode.

i have your problem. my cars a 91 z w/ elctric speedo, and it has 273's. it has a 5 spd from a 86 firebird. and i cant find the gears i need eitehr. i ahve to go to a speedo shop near my work and ask em about it and tehy will make gears. one for the trans. output shaft and one for the speed sensor or cable. i think its called dicks speedo and tach.
2.73's had 17/37, as for 3.23's just call different dealers and eventually you will find one that knows what they are talking about. I had to call 4 different ones before I finally got a competant parts guy.
I appologize if I'm a bi tharsh here, but why don't you just pull the gears out and conut them? If you just need a replacement, it's just that simple! Even if you have a wear issue (sounds like you do), there should be enough left to be able to count. If you want to get pretty darn close, I have the info you need, let me know!

I can do speedometer gear calculations and find you the best gears possible. The only problem is, I don't know what gears are availalbe for the T-5. All my research gives me gears for the Ford T5, but I can't find anything for the GM T5. If someone can tell me the gears available (number of teeth is all that is needed) I can calculate anything you need.

7 & 9 drive gears are available for certain. 21 and 22 driven gears are available for certain.
23/9 would be a pretty darn close combo of gears for him IMO.

for me!? if so then thats good nough lol. I honestly don't mind it being a bit off, I was driving my car w/ a speedo gear for a 3.08 rear end and I was only 3 mph off. Besides I know my speed w/ the tach.
Today is a perfect day toinstall it so if someone gets me a speedo gear no. I woill be ever so greatful
If it's a T-5 car, you need a 7-tooth drive gear and a 19-tooth driven. It actually works out to 7 and about 18.55, but you can't exactly buy one like that... 19 will have to do.

Those are the T5 speedo gears for a 3.42 gear. There are AC Delco/GM parts. I went to my local dealer that happens to be a GM parts dealer as well and I told them I needed a speedo gear for a 1990 camaro with the 3.42 gear and T5. You could say that you have a Z or an Iroc depending on the year of your car. My tranny is just the plain old T5 that is in every 3rd gen out there. You can get one of them off www.gmpartsdirect.com but I can't remember which one it is. I think it was the purple one. I got the white one at the dealer. However they did have both.
