how to make an electric speedo to a cable speedo

my tranny recently died, so im gettin a good deal on another tranny from a 89 z but the only thing is that they have an elecric speedo hook up and my car is an 85 with the cable hook up.

is there a way to fix this , or do a swap, or can i leave it unpluged ??

If they are both 700R4's then you just have to swap over the speedo gear from your old one and put in the correct gear housing that a cable can screw into from your old one. Go to www.700R4.com and look at their cable speeo packages if you need an idea of what needs to be swapped. I did the swap in my 89 RS.

i just need to swap from electrical connector to the cable screw on connector

Yup, that's all.
Remove the 10mm bolt next to the sending unit, and pull the unit out. Make sure the speedo drive gear inside the new trans is the same color as the one in the old trans. Put it back together and enjoy.

You can phyically swap the VSS for the cable sleeve/housing but the VSS speedo gear WILL NOT work with the screw on housing for a cable. The cable driven gears come with a shaft molded into them which the cable goes into. I know cause I did the same thing I just swapped the VSS in a 90 trans to a cable driven housing with NO change to the rear end and the drive gears are te same but the driven ones were different even though they are the same color.
