4L60E Second Gear Start (4th Gen) - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

I'm a long time member so, I didn't think anyone would mind if I posted a question relating to my new '02 Z28 (I still have my '89).

As I said, I just bought a 2002 Z28 w/ 4L60E. I have noticed that if I leave the gear selector in 2nd when coming to a stop when I hit the gas the car starts out in second. Also, if I manually downshift from third to second before entering a low speed corner, upon exiting the corner I floor it but it won't drop down to first like it will if the shift lever is in the 3rd or 4th position.

Is anyone familiar with what I'm talking about? I would think that this might be nice if trying to start out in the snow or something. But, I would like to know if there is any way to eliminate these second gear starts and refusals to drop into first.

Any advise will be much appreciated.

I thought that was one of the gas-saving things on the 4L60E that it starts in 2nd gear. Also helps with traction, yes. Its kind of like how hte T-56 forces you into 4th from 1st if you're not giving a lot of throttle. I'm sure there is some way around it, but I don't know how. There may be something like the 'skip shift eliminator' but for autos..
