Converted to carb! TC lockup switch or not?

OK guys, I converted from TPI to carb, and still have the 700r4 in the car.

The computer is gone, so should I buy a TC lockup switch, or will wiring in a toggle switch work?

What will happen to my trans if I just leave it this way?

I will be having the trans built later on, and thought about using a non lockup converter. So I will have to have the trans converted also.

This is not a daily driver, but it does see some street time.

What do you guys suggest?
thanks

Just make a switch.....since its not a daily driver you are better just using the Lock-up when you need it.......save you lots of money and YOU have the control over it.....

yeah, but will a typical toggle switch still work with the computer out of the car?

I know it will work if you are still using the FI and computer, but will it still work the same without the computer?

As long as you don't butcher the wiring.

Yes make sure that the switch is providing a (GROUND) or a negative signal.....thats what completes the lock-up...

I did remove some of the wiring. The wires for the injectors and ect.

I did not touch any wires going to the trans.

What would be the down side of not using a switch? Besides using more gas at highway speeds?

Well your torque converter when not locked up will produce friction and therefor create more heat.....this is not a major concern but you gain a few hundred rpm on the highway and you will have less friction (heat) built up in the transmission that way as well.....I have a Camaro that I don't use it on and my Firebird I do for highway driving and thats it.....

so if I install a external trans cooler, then that would help with the heat/friction. Im not worried about the extra few hundered RPM. I run 3.73 gears anyway.

I do race it from time to time at the track. I also do drive it around town on occasions. No freeway driving.

Thanks guys, I may wire up a toggle switch just to see if there is much of a difference.

i just got rid of my computer when i dropped in my 350HO.

I'm running a 700R4, B&M shift kit, and a supercooler.

w/o the lockup it added 200 rpm at cruise, comes out to about 1700RPM@60MPH w/ the 2.73's....

I'm more worried about my tranny leaking, than the lockup at this point...

I did save the tranny wires though, in case i ever get around to it.
