turbo 700 r4 stuck in first gear governor jammed?need help ! :(

hi there i have a problemb with my recently rebuilt turbo 700 r4 auto
wont change from 1st gear no matter what revs !! reverse is fine and first ..... had the occasional slip ...bang effect like low trans fluid ..but level is fine ...the rebuilder lives 2 hrs drive away and having 60kmh top speed at 6,000rpm i am in a jam ..he said it sounded like the governer has jammed ..reccomended i drive in reverse slowly and slowly move gearshift toward park till you hear the rattle said that sometimes unjas them ...didnt work for me so he said will need to drop valve body and remove governor and fix the problemb ...........IS THERE A SIMPLER WAY???????????????????????????????? has anyone had this problemb ????????or know of an easy fix
please let me know

Yes, a simpler way. The governor is under a small domed cover on the tail housing (not under the pan/valve body). Down under it would be on the passenger side of the trans.

Tap the cover off with a punch around the lip, and the governor pulls out. Good possibility that you will find the governor gear is stripped. Common issue. Install a new gear and you are good to go.

When replacing the cover tap it only around the edges, not the center. Else you'll be doing a gear again soon, and finding a new cover.
