Loud thump when it first starts to move.

1989 V6 2.8L MPFI. Auto. Just about every time I'm driving, if I hit the gas with any kind of authority, I get this loud thump from under the shifter hump. Its a little further back, like under the armrest even. Its fine till I stop again, then it happens as soon as I give it even a little bit of gas. I can hit the gas so it doesn't happen, incredibly gently, but the cars behind are pissed off then LOL.

Always happened like that in this car (had it for 4 years now). The severity of the thump, (which can be felt, and heard), is directly proportional to how hard I hit the gas.

Any clues? Is my tranny jumping around down there?

btw, trans mount is about $12... i reccomend a poly one...

its just two bolts on the trans, and one or two thru the crossmember... first time might take you 20mins.. after that, its a 10min job.

You can get stock replacement or poly transmission mounts at just about any auto parts store.
