Hey guys, I need some info on how to wire up my transmissions. It's just that little weather pack, but I dont know what they do in the first place.
I have an '84 TA with a T5 and an '85 TA with a 700R4. I bought the '84 as a donor car for my '85, which is my daily driver. When I'm done swapping my not-so-good stuff from the '85 to the '84, I want to sell the '84.
So basically I want to switch transmissions in the cars, and I'm pretty sure I have all the mechanical stuff down, but I dont know what the weather pack that goes into either transmission does (I assume for back-up lights), or how to switch them to make them work. The automatic has to work in the manual car and the manual has to work in the automatic car.
By the way, the T5 has a 2-prong weatherpack, and the 700 has a four prong weatherpack (arranged in a square). Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

The connector for the t5 is for the reverse lights, the connector for the 700R4 has 3 wires, one wire is for the positive supply to thetorque converter lock up solnoid, one is for 4th gear pressure switch, and the last is for the 1st gear pressure switch (I think). Hope this helps
The correct way would be to swap both engine wiring harnesses, soley for the benefit out the auto trans. The harness part that goes to the trans lockup is part of main engine harness, and the T-5 car will not have it. This would include an ecm swap, and be a PITA. This also assumes both cars have the same engine. Depends on how much you really like the future owner of the auto car. For the reverse lights, you'll have to get a wiring diagram and rewire the T-5 connector into the cars harness. IIRC the auto shifter harness has the reverse lights wiring in it.

wow. umm, i think i'll just end up selling the '84 as a parts car then. it's not in great shape to begin with. And no the engines werent even the same. oringnally the 85 had an LG4 and the 84 had an L69. As long as it wont hurt my T5, im happy.
Thanks!
