I am thinking about putting an aluminum driveline out of an 1LE man. transmission car into my normal V8 automatic vehicle..Will this driveline fit?? Should I feel much if any difference??

Yes it will fit and the differences you will feel with be in terms of smoothness and stability. There is some power gain due to the decreased rotational mass. However, your but dyno may not be tuned to feel it.

Grab a magnet and search the local junkyards. Any 3rd or 4th gen aluminum driveshaft will fit. Look for 1LE 3rd gens and 98+ 4th gen LS1 cars. That's the easiest way to find them.
Many thirdgens other than the 1LE cars came with an aluminum driveshaft. Look for a JG1 RPO. My '91 GTA came with one from the factory (until the tard who owned it before me towed the thing and let the driveshaft drag on the ground.. grr).. I'd recommend an LS1 aluminum shaft (what I'm running now), they have the vibration dampner and run smoooooth...

Nice info!
I've got a couple feelers out for the 3rd Gen driveshaft but would really like that LS1 shaft you mention. Sounds peachy (and expensive). Am I right?
The going rate for an LS1 shaft in good shape is ~$150... Thats what I paid for mine, and it was well worth it after dealing with a vibration-plagued old steel shaft..

OK. I found and can purchase a 1LE aluminum shaft for 165 which includes shipping (and CA state tax). Is this shaft as good as the LS1 shaft?
Where do I go for an LS1 shaft? I'm asking as a lazy man. You all know this.

Drat. I can't find this info on the LS1 driveshaft and where to find one. Searching the Parts forum is not working.
Lot of aluminum 1le dr shafts out there. Look for RPO JG1 and the P/N for the 2 3/4 dia is 10085375. About $100/150 on E-bay or about $240 new from GMpartsdirect with both yokes.

Rock on for that information.
Is the RPO or the P/N supposed to be printed on the yoke itself somewhere?

They want 50 dollars shipping.
I thought it only wieghed 10lbs.
My guess is you NEVER bought from them before. You have to disregard the Shipping costs and compare their total price vs the same one from a Dealer and thats your savings. And the weigth of 1LE shaft is about 13.5# with the yokes. (however someone will correct this )
any of you that have put a LS1 aluminum in your camaros please post results of the difference it made to your cars.
Thinking of buying one but i want to make sure it is worth it first. What are the benefits of having one?
Thanks for your replys you rock........
(awsome thread for info)
p.s have a rasping noise below the shifter when over 80 km/h. not too much vibration. Have been told its probably the shaft/universals. Anyone relate to this noise? Have also heard that the stock shafts are garbage and are problem plagued. Is there any truth to this?
The only advantages of a Aluminum Dr Shaft (1LE/LS1) are less weigth in the rotating mass, ;ess vibration at high speeds and a very small HP increase from it. Otherwise you will NOT notice much of a difference.
Note: I have a 1LE shaft on my car that I paid $110 for and if you have to pay more then $150 for one forget it.
Search around. The 1LE shafts are far more plentiful than people imagine. A couple of years ago, after hearing how rare they were, I started a search and found one within 20 minutes--long short short I eventually found and sold around 70 (yes, 70) of them. Check out the on-line salvage yards. I bought from all over the US and Canada.
