Brake-Stand Damage?

Recently I noticed that if during a brake stand I brought the RPM's past about 1100 the car would would start moving foward; even with all my weight on the brake. So anyways I recently had the stock 700-R4 rebuilt for other problems and now I can bring the revs up much higher without the car moving. So this brings me to my questions: Are brake stands absolutlely brutal on the transmission, and are they the best way the heat up my treaded tires at the track.

Yes, brakestands are hard on the driveline but theirs not much you can do if you need to heat up the tires.

As for the thing reving higher now, im guessing that their is a higher stall converter in there now.

Somewhat of a solution to the problem would be to use a line lock system, that way your front tires will be at a dead lock and the rear brakes will have no pressure whatsoever. Makes it easier on the brakes and takes a bit of strain off the driveline.

It's hard to heat up a street tire since they're designed not to heat up. Doing a smoky burnout with a street tire doesn't do much except wear off rubber.

When you see a race car doing a burnout in the water box there's a few things they're doing that you can't see. The majority use a line lock. This allows you to set and hold the front brakes allowing the rear brakes to release so they don't heat up during the burnout. Getting the tires hot requires wheel speed. You start in first gear just to get the tires spinning then quickly shift to second and as you come out of the water box, shift into third to keep from destroying the intermediate sprag in most multi speed transmissions.

I only use a 2 speed tranny so my burnouts are in high gear at an estimated 100 mph.

As for your problems it could be a number of things. It's possible you damaged the converter. I'm not sure on the inner workings of the 700R4 but there's a good chance something is broken. Drop the pan and see if there's any hard parts in the bottom.

As for holding the car back with the brakes, you'll never be able to hold it without a transbrake. Once you get close to the converter's stall speed, it will overpower the holding ability of any brake system you have on the car. You could have 6 piston calipers on all 4 wheels and you won't be able to hold it back unless the engine is greatly underpowered but then you wouldn't be needing a brake system like that.

line locks are $35 from summit. sam biondo I think.... more if you buy a kit with it (18AWG wire and a switch... oooh...) Then just flare the lines, etc, install it, and wire it into the car on a switch with $10 worth bits. MUCH easier on the car.
